Affiliate Marketing-Low Risk, High Potential
Have you thought about starting a Home Based Business? Have you considered one in Affiliate Marketing? It doesn’t matter if your retired, want to make money for college, or just want to make extra cash, Affiliate Marketing is the best way for new entrepreneurs to start their business and make money from home. The Reason: The main reason is that it is low risk, with affiliate programs you do not have to have your own product or deal with delivery or customer service problems, these are all handled by the companies whose products you are promoting in which you are paid a commission when a sale is made. The other is that unlike other businesses which can involve a substantial amount of money to start, an Affiliate Marketing Business can be established with a low cost to the entrepreneur providing you do all or most of the work.
Fact: It is a fact that the Internet sales in the U.S. alone are expected to increase 20% to 1.9 billion by 2012!
How to Set Up an Affiliate Marketing Business:
Tools you will need: The main tool you need is a computer preferably a thin, light laptop with Dual Core processor technology, 3 GB DDR II SDRAM, 160 GB hard drive, 10-17 inch screen, if you have an older computer and do not want to purchase a new one now that’s fine but consider it for the future. If you don’t have Micro Soft office in your computer then download “Open Office” it’s free.
I suggest a decent printer preferably an all in one so that you can print information you find that is useful to you or scan documents into your computer that you can either email or fax to another location. These days you can purchase one for around $200.
Another good thing to have is an external hard drive so that you have the ability to back up your computer without having to manually do it yourself on disc every week. Another option is to use an off site back up which is a very cheap way to store all your information from your computer. I’m deadly serious about this, if you can not remember to back up on disc at least every week you need something that will do it for you. If your computer crashes or the mother board is fried from a lightening strike (a surge protector is not a 100% guarantee against this happening) then there is a high probability that you have lost all of the information on your computer.
Business Plan: If you want to make money from home then you want to have some sense of order and direction when starting an online business. A basic business plan would be a good idea, it’s like a road map for your business which keeps you focused on where you are going and helps to keep you from straying from your objective.

Determine whether you want to do business as a Sole Proprietor or as an LLC: This is a decision that needs to be made before you start doing business online. Just about all who start out in Affiliate Marketing do so as a Sole Proprietor:
1. For it’s simplicity: As a Sole Proprietor all you need is a business license from your local city Government, Your Social Security Number, A name for your business, A bank account with a DBA (Doing Business As) attached to it and a physical address for the business which would be your home since more than likely you will run the business from there.
2. That there is no need to incorporate when starting out because there’s no liability involved for referring customers to a vendors site. The vendor who owns either the product or service is the one who is liable for said product or service.

Find your local city government
Now if you are selling a product you own then you will want to form an LLC because all the liability falls onto the business and if you are a Sole Proprietor then that means your businesses assets along with your assets are fair game for a lawsuit should one occur whereas with an LLC only the business assets are susceptible.
Who Should form an LLC?
You should consider forming an LLC if you are concerned about personal exposure to lawsuits or debts arising from your business. For example, if you decide to open a store-front business that deals directly with the public, you may worry that your commercial liability insurance won’t fully protect your personal assets from potential slip-and-fall lawsuits or claims by your suppliers for unpaid bills. Running your business as an LLC may help you sleep better, because it gives you personal protection against these and other potential claims against your business. Not all businesses can operate as LLCs, however. Businesses in the banking, trust, and insurance industry, for example, are typically prohibited from forming LLCs. In addition, some states, including California, prohibit professionals such as architects, accountants, doctors, and licensed health care workers from forming LLCs.
Note: If you decide to form an LLC it is recommended that you have at least two members. A recent Supreme Court case has left it a little nebulous as to whether a sole member LLC has personal asset protection that is usually afforded to those who form a multi-member LLC.

Decide what you want to sell: Are you going to sell physical products, information products or services. You want to think of something that you like to do and that there is a demand for it, a sport, a hobby, something you have knowledge in and focus on those type products. People use the Internet to find products, information and or services, you can be the one who provides the advice and recommends the best products for them.
Create a Website: You can find someone to create a website for you for a price and then buy a Domain Name and pay for cheap hosting with a monthly bill or you could use Google Blogger it’s free. If you do not know how to use Blogger go to You Tube, there are videos that will show you how. Using Blogger and installing an analytics code will allow you to build a website and see how it performs without the costs you would normally have with a traditional site. You can try different techniques and when you get one that produces income you can copy that format for other sites.
Fact: 1 in 5 websites will not make money, The ratio is higher if you do not know what you are doing and make the same mistakes over and over again.
If your going to get into this business you will want to have as many sites as possible to increase your chances of making money on the Internet. Later on when you have income coming in you can purchase domain names and get hosting for the sites that are producing. Now after all this you are probably thinking “Google Blogger for a website”? The answer is yes, you can use Blogger to create a website. A blog for all intent a purposes is a website, as long as you have relevant content in the body you can use it to market or sell product. Now if all you have are banners and links that is a different story, this will most likely result in termination of your site by Google. Keep in mind when setting up your site that you want to make it look professional, if it looks like a first grader put it together you will have a tough time getting people to view your site.
There are many other blog sites that are available to use besides Google Blogger but what makes Google so appealing is that there are many different tools provided by Google that all tie together under one account that you don’t have to have many different user names and passwords to keep track of. The tools I refer to are: Google analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, Google Alerts, Google Adsense, Google Adword Keyword and Google Insights just to name a few. Plus Google loves to see You Tube videos on your site because they now own You Tube. These are all tools that you need to help your Online Business thrive.
Sign up with the affiliate sites: You have a site, now you need add links to your site for the products you want to promote. Go to the affiliate program providers such as click bank, amazon associates, and commission junction, these are the places where you will copy your tracking code to paste into your site so that visitors can click on the link taking them to the merchants site where if they make a purchase you will receive a commission for the sale. You do not have to pay to join these programs if you come across an affiliate site and they require you to pay a fee to join we suggest you go elsewhere.
Add Links to Your Site: Once you have signed with the affiliate providers and have chosen your product you can get your links to add to your website in the appropriate places. Make sure you keep in line with what the site is about. If your selling basket balls then you are not going to sell golf balls along with it.
Marketing Your Site and getting traffic: There are many different ways to market your website and bring in traffic.
A few of the free ways are;
Submitting your site to the 3 top search engines Google, Yahoo and Bing.
Search Engine Optimization: Relevant keywords on your site Social Media Marketing: Through You Tube, Face Book and Twitter, etc…
Article Marketing: Writing quality articles and submitting them to the article sites with your link attached.
Link Sharing: Trading links with other websites that are like sites but that are not direct competition with yours.
Link Building: Creating in bound links through open directory submission, social media, press releases and forums.
Paid ways to market your site:

Paid banner ads
Buying quality traffic
Offline marketing
Research any of these avenues to help you decide what is best for you. There are a lot off free resources out there with information about marketing but we have found that the most detailed marketing information usually comes from paid sources.
Things to consider: Once you are up and running you might want to consider Opt in E-mail. This is where you offer customers a choice on whether or not they want to receive e-mails from you informing them of any sales or new products that you are offering on your site. This is a great marketing tool for generating repeat customers. You will need either auto responder software or a provider to do this. The provider is the best route to go, it’s a nominal fee to use the service and it won’t eat up space in your computer like the software.
Highly recommended:
